Riding the Queen Charlotte Track
  |  Gorp.com

Call it Mecca for mountain bikers. The Queen Charlotte Track in the Marlborough Sounds is a virtual paradise for mountain bikers. Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, the Track is one of the longest piece of ridable single-track in New Zealand, stretching for 67 kilometers from Ship Cove to Anakiwa (start by taking a boat to Ship Cove). You'll spend three days riding exhilarating tracks through native forest, along ridges, and around bays. On the second day, parts of the track become exposed, offering correspondingly awesome views.

You'll need to be an intermediate-level mountain biker with average fitness to get the most from this adventure, but non-bikers can hike this track, which is classified as a Great Walk, in four days.
