Lake Talquin
8,850-acre impoundment on the Ochlockonee River west of Tallahassee located in both Leon and Gadsden counties. Known as one of north Florida's finest fishing lakes. Spring fishing is excellent for bluegill and shellcracker. Best baits include earth worms, crickets and grass shrimp. Fly fishing for bream is also good during this time in the early morning and late afternoon. Bass fishing is excellent in the spring. Good areas to fish include the creeks end channels on the upper end of the lake. Best baits include crankbaits, plastic worms and topwater plugs. Live shiners can also be used effectively for trophy bass. All black bass less than 14 inches in length must be immediately released unharmed.

Good strings of speckled perch are taken in January and February on live minnows. White bass may be caught above the lake in March using live crayfish or grass shrimp. The lake is stocked annually with striped bass. Best fishing is in the spring and fall, using deep-diving minnow-type lures. In the fall, stripers can be caught in schools by watching birds congregate to catch shad pushed to the top by feeding stripers.

Upper Apalachicola River
From Lake Seminole to Blountstown including tailwaters below the reservoir at Chattahoochee. Reached over U.S. Hwy 90 at Chattahoochee, over SR 20 at Blountstown, and off SR 69 over sand roads to river.

Tremendous sunshine bass fishing in the spring and fall months. Many state record sunshine bass have been taken in tailrace below Jim Woodruff Dam. Best baits include jigs, spoons end live shad. Sunshine bass which are produced and stocked by GFC often school on the surface in the fall and limits can be caught in minutes using spoons. White bass fishing is good primarily in March using small crawfish and grass shrimp while bottom fishing. Bluegill and redbreast fishing is best during the spring on crickets, earthworms and catalpa worms.

Best strings of shellcrackers are caught around the race shoal area using redworms. Good bass fishing in the spring and early summer using plastic worms and crankbaits. Striped bass fishing is best in the spring. Best baits in the fall include small live eels fished off the Jim Woodruff Dam catwalk and deep-diving minnow-type lures.
