Access and Resources
The Maltese archipelago lies 60 miles due south of Sicily, and consists of three islands: Malta is the largest (though at 124 square miles, it's smaller than England's Isle of Wight); Gozo ranks second in size, and Comino—the smallest—is sandwiched between the two. Its climate affords year-round comfort; in winter it seldom drops below 54 degrees, and you'll encounter uninterrupted clear skies and soaring temps between April and September. All flights arrive at Luqa's Malta International Airport; Air Malta, the national airlines, offers direct flights from a number of European cities. There is also regular summertime ferry service from Sicily and northern Italy. Once on the island, travel on Malta and between Malta and the other islands is easy; almost everything on the main island lies within 30 minutes of Valletta, while ferries operate between the isles.
