Florida Fishing Regions

Escambia County

Escambia River
Flows out of south Alabama into Escambia Bay. Popular access points are Century, McDavid, Molino and U.S. Hwy 90 crossing. Bluegill and shellcracker fishing is best in the spring near the delta area on earthworms. Many fishermen also catch good strings of bream in the spring by fly fishing. Bass fishing is good in the delta area during spring and fall. Best baits are crankbaits, but live shrimp produce good strings, especially in late summer.

Sunshine bass fishing is excellent in late summer, primarily in the delta area. Live shrimp, jigs and spoons produce the best results. Speckled perch can be caught in the river near treetops and sloughs in January and February using live minnows. All black bass less than 13 inches in length must be immediately released unharmed.

Lake Stone
This is a 130-acre Commission-managed impoundment near Century, west of U.S. Hwy 29. The Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission has limed and fertilized this lake to increase fish production. Bream should be plentiful in the spring, and best baits should be crickets and earthworms. Bass fishing will be best in the spring and early summer. Dark colored plastic worms or topwater plugs should be used at daylight and late afternoon. Catfish have been stocked, and best baits are earthworms and chicken livers.
