What to do in Waimea State Recreation Pier

Waimea State Recreation Pier comprises the remnants of a small but flourishing nineteenth century harbor. The site didn't develop commercially and seafarers obtained their cargoes elsewhere.

Today Waimea Pier is used for recreation pursuits. Facilities within the small park include picnic tables and restrooms. Within a few blocks of the pier, in the town of Waimea, you will find restaurants, shops, grocery stores, and a theatre.

Waimea Canyon State Park begins about six miles north of the town of Waimea and is a spectacular site to visit while in this area of Kauai. The rim overlooks one of Hawai'i's treasures, the deep colorful gorge of Waimea Canyon.

Recreation
This state-maintained facility provides access to good pole fishing and crabbing, as well as picnicking and photography. Outside the park, visitors can also hike the shoreline for miles.

Location
Waimea State Recreation Pier is located ocean side in Waimea. It is accessible from La'au and Moana Roads.

Climate
The climate on Kauai varies more with the terrain than the seasons. Generally, the coastal temperature changes little throughout the year with an annual average of 74 degrees F. The higher elevations of the interior of the island includes the wettest place on earth, Mt. Waialeale. This region averages higher than 4,000 feet and receives nearly 500 inches of rain. If your planning to camp in the higher elevations of Kauai, I recommend layers and rain gear. Temperatures drop four degrees F with every 1,000 feet gained in elevation.
