With the smell of snow in the air, it is time to start planning a getaway to the slopes. At Away.com we've picked some great ski destinations for this season's trip.
Salt Lake City has more than seven ski resorts within a 30 mile radius, meaning travelers can usually find a good deal because of the competition. The Wasatch Mountain Range is a mere 30-minute drive from downtown and offers hundreds of miles of trails at world-class resorts. Its proximity to Salt Lake City International Airport makes this destination great for a weekend getaway or a weeklong winter vacation.
Lake Tahoe is the country's largest alpine lake, surrounded on all sides by the Sierra Nevada Mountains that straddle Nevada and California. A former site of the Winter Olympics in 1960, this area offers some legendary skiing adventures. And with nearly 300 days of sunshine a year, Lake Tahoe is usually a sure bet for great weather during your vacation.
Killington, Vermont, is nicknamed the "Beast of the East," as it's the largest ski area on the east coast. Some of the runs are up to 10 miles long, and the area offers more lifts, more runs, and more vertical feet than any other ski area in the region. Plus, it has the biggest snowmaking system in the world and the longest ski season in the east, usually from mid-October to June.
So grab your board or skies and head out for your own winter adventure this season.
