Things To Do at a Ski Resort Besides Ski
Skiers and snowboarders wait all year for opening day at their favorite snowy spot. But if you're not into swishing down the mountain, Away.com has some great ideas on things to do at a ski resort besides ski.

Try snowshoeing. Snowshoes are no longer tennis rackets strapped onto the bottom of a boot. Today they are made of lightweight aluminum, fiberglass, or plastic, and they are surprisingly easy to use, even for first-timers. You'll get a whole other view of the mountain's terrain, including some of its wildlife.

Now-a-days, ice-skating rinks are commonplace at ski resorts. Skate rentals and even lessons all come at a reasonable price for those who want to try something new. It's a good alternative for kids or non-skiers, or a fun outing for couples or families at night.

Take some time to get cultured. Aspen, Colorado, boasts an arts and culture scene that few ski towns can match. Park City, Utah, is known for its famous Sundance Film Festival. And Lake Tahoe, California, has nearby casinos with concerts, comedy shows, and other entertainment.

Be a foodie and go wine and dine. Many ski-resort areas are home to five-star restaurants, and the chefs' creations are certainly worth skipping the regular après fare of beer and potato skins.

So on your next ski vacation, get out and enjoy all that these mountain towns have to offer beyond the slopes.
