This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner, and his birthplace, Leipzig, is holding concerts and celebrations all year long. Bayreuth is also where Wagner moved in 1871 and built his own opera house, which has been performing his operas exclusively since 1876. Berlin and Dresden are close-by, perfect for a train-travel loop of culture, history, and hipness.
