2013's Best Seven-Day Vacations
During President Obama’s first term, he loosened travel rules here to allow so-called “people to people” programs—educational tours of sorts to increase engagement between everyday Americans and Cubans. The response was enthusiastic, to say the least: There were waiting lists through the end of 2012. But amid criticism that the tours were just an excuse for superficial vacations, the regulations have been tightened and the future of American tourism in Cuba is up in the air (although with Obama’s re-election, you can expect it won’t be entirely cut off). Pin down a trip as soon as you can. Friendly Planet Travel recently got approval to run “people to people” trips to Cuba through September 2014. Both of their tours begin in Havana.
