Already seen Vancouver and Victoria? Next stop: the Gulf Islands. There are 200-plus of them, right between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia. Sheltered waters make for mellow sailing and diving. Beaches are pristine and uncrowded. Vibes range from artsy (Gabriola, Hornby, and Salt Spring islands) to outdoorsy (Saturna and Pender). And don’t jump to conclusions about Northwest weather: The climate here is near Mediterranean, so it’s a great place to find local wine and food and a great escape.
