Two Detroit icons: The famous Spirit of Detroit sculpture outside the Coleman Young building wore a jersey of the city's beloved hockey team, the Red Wings, to commemorate the team's appearance in the 2009 Stanley Cup finals.

Comerica Park in Detroit. The home of the Detroit Tigers, Comerica replaced Tiger Stadium in 2000. Along with adjacent Ford Field, home to the NFL's Detroit Lions, the park is part of an ongoing downtown revitalization plan.

The Dotty Wotty House, part of artist Tyree Guyton's Heidelberg Project. The Heidelberg Project is an ongoing public art work in Detroit's MacDougall-Hunt neighborhood, aimed at revitalizing the area by decorating abandoned houses. Guyton and his grandfather Sam Mackey began the work in 1986 in an effort to combat the blight they encountered in the neighborhood. In the years since Guyton has organized a nonprofit to fund and promote the project and has been joined by scores of volunteers.
