| Flamingo fun at Kenya's Lake Nakuru (Rich Beattie) |
Can't resist the allure of our feathered friends? Kenya's Rift Valley is the place to go. Lake Bogoria is home to more than 1.5 million pink flamingos—a mind-boggling sight and one of the most amazing natural spectacles in East Africa. Close by is the Kesubo Swamp, where more than 200 species are resident and a national record was set when 96 of them were spotted in a single hour! Further south is Lake Nakuru, one of the Rift Valley soda lakes and home to some 400 bird species. Campsites close to the lakeshore offer the perfect base for an ornithological expedition. Both lakes are within a few hours' drive of Nairobi.
