In the rarely visited province of La Rioja, condors and vultures nest on the sheer sandstone cliffs of this isolated national park also features fields of dunes, native dwarf forests, and pre-Columbian petroglyphs, mortars, and other archaeological riches. It's open for vehicle tours only, arranged fairly easily from the nearby village of Pagancillo. The easiest gateway city is Chilecito, an historic town that, happily, lies in the heart of good wine country.
