Kahaluu Beach on the Big Island

For residents of the West Coast, Hawaii is the tropical paradise of choice. Just a short flight into the heart of the Pacific, you can sun worship on white-sand (and black-sand) beaches, hang ten on killer waves, pig out at luaus, and relax in a laid-back island culture. At Oahu's famous Waikiki Beach, you don't have to leave the postcard-perfect surf and sand behind to enjoy big-city nightlife.

Hawaii's tropical climate and volcanic landscape make it a great destination for outdoor activity. Go backpacking on the rugged Garden Isle of Kauai. Snorkel along Hanauma Bay's living coral reef in crystal-clear water, where the abundant marine life isn't afraid to get up close and personal. Hike the lava flows (long since cooled) at Haleakala or Hawaii Volcanoes national parks.
