An Active Guide to Fiji

All Praise the Heavenly Archipelago

WARNING: Read the following articles, and all travel plans for the next ten years will likely be subsumed by one four-letter word: FIJI
Paradise, anyone? (Corbis)
Four Resorts
Fiji has more pristine beaches than damn near anywhere else on the globe. To aid those in search of the perfect beachside resort (each offering equal measures of surfing, swimming, and multisport), we target four of our favs.

Over 300 islands large enough to inhabit, and over 1,500 additional islands, atolls, coral formations, and isles floating in the South Pacific Sea collectively offer some of the world's best scuba diving, surfing, sailing, cycling, climbing, rafting, eco-touring, rainforest hiking—and yeah, the beaches ain't bad either. Don't believe us? Any doubt of beach quality can be quenched by watching Castaway, The Blue Lagoon, or any of the other dozen or so flicks that use the tropical archipelago as evidence that quiet paradise still exists in this world.

In what follows, we outline a few of the many attractions, from a weeklong sailing adventure to private-beach honeymooning with Britney Spears to plunging into waterfall-fed freshwater swimming pools, that keep Fiji high on the list of must-see, must-do places. Yet it's the islands' warm and accommodating inhabitants that you'll likely remember more. After all, when you live in tropical paradise, you can't help but want to invite the entire world to show everybody always smiling about.
