For rock-climbing enthusiasts who may be stuck in Bangkok for the week because someone wanted to go shopping at Chatuchak, stay out of trouble by hitting up the indoor climbing scene. The city boasts a couple of legitimate rock gyms and even a fetish bar called The Cave on Khao San Road with a rock-climbing wall (okay, you might get into some trouble here).
Bangkok Rock Climbing offers bouldering, roof climbing, and via ferratta skill sections. With its website all in Thai, your best bet is just to drop in and check it out. Outside High Altitude offers bouldering and roof climbing. Lastly there is Proclimber, a shop and wall offering regular classes for beginners to experienced rock hounds. Proclimber also runs climbing tours around Thailand.
For the rock-rat fetishist in all of us, The Cave is the place to grab a beer and even an inebriated toehold. And although weve heard reports of a recent raid and them possibly closing shop due to suspension, knowing Thailand its probably all good now after a little hand slap. Look for The Cave off a small alleyway, with a big sign out front on Khao San Road (B4). Its hard to miss!
