HydroHealth Day Spa (Bangkok)

Visitors in Bangkok on business or in transit as part of a longer Southeast Asian adventure are increasingly discovering the benefits of spa time over the city's manifold other pleasures. And one of the top choices for day spas has been HydroHealth Colonic Center, a treatment center in Bangkok offering colonics, massage, and infrared saunas. According to a Journal of the American Medical Association report, you may burn as many calories as you would rowing or jogging for 30 minutes in a single infrared sauna session, which is designed to heat only your body instead of the surrounding air. So you lose weight—not just water. It also thoroughly relaxes your body before you slip into full massage mode.

For $175 visitors can enjoy (well, perhaps stretching the definition of enjoy, but the aftereffect is supposedly enjoyable) a 45-minute colonic and a 45-minute infrared sauna, followed by a two-hour massage. This may sound expensive to those who appreciate the sense of wellness bestowed by a quick $10 Thai massage, but the state-of-the-art equipment for the colonic and sauna at HydroHealth is imported from the U.S., thus the service's price tag. Then again, there are those who don't blink at shelling out the thousands of baht for such a treatment. One friend who has frequented this spa on her numerous Thailand visits said, "It's a little awkward and all, but afterwards, I felt so light, healthy, and energetic. If I lived in Bangkok, I would do this every month!"
