What to do in Tomoka State Park

Encompassing nearly 1,800 acres of land with 25 miles lying along the coast, Tomoka State Park is just minutes from one of America's most popular beaches, Daytona Beach. Within minutes of Ormond Beach and ten minutes of Daytona, the forested park is perfect for picnicking and camping. The park actually rests on a peninsula bordered by the Halifax River, Tomoka River and the Tomoka Basin.

Once inhabited by the Timucuan Indians, their burial grounds and shell middens are still visible today. Spanish explorers from the 1600s found the site a favorable vantage point.

Nature enthusiasts are invited to experience the sights and sounds of Tomoka State Park. Over 150 plant species and 165 bird species have been identified. Bottle-nosed dolphins and manatees regularly inhabit the waters offshore. A boat launch offers not only a boating and canoeing experience but also affords a closer look at the rich wildlife. Fishing is wonderful. Common catches include spotted sea trout, snook, tarpon and more. Swimming is not permitted at Tomoka State Park; however, a large campground and five separate picnic groves attract thousands each year.

Recreation
Visitors to Tomoka State Park will find a variety of outdoor recreations including camping, canoeing, fishing, boating, picnicking, and hiking. A museum and visitor center is open year-round.
