Thompson's Lake State Park is located just four miles from one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world, Helderberg Escarpment. The park offers both overnight and day use amenities. Nestled in a forest of mixed hardwoods this quiet and relaxing park offers a sandy beach, recreation programs, winter sporting opportunities and more.

Thompson's Lake State Park, nestled in the mountains just four miles from the Helderberg Escarpment, is a popular camping ground and recreation area. In addition to 140 wooded campsites, the park comprises a sandy beach, mixed hardwood and conifer forests, limestone outcroppings and open fields. Recreational opportunities include a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a playing field, carry-in boat access, rental row boats, fishing areas and nature trails. Interpretive and recreational programs are offered for campers throughout the summer. During the winter, visitors can cross-country ski and ice fish.

Recreation
Thompson's Lake State Park offers the visitor a beach, a boat launch site, boat rental, hiking and cross-country trails, a nature trail, picnic area, a children's playground, play fields, showers, tent and RV sites, recreation programs, fishing opportunities that include ice fishing.

A slender parcel along the eastern state line receive the heaviest precipitation.
