What to do in Zurich
Zurich has long been a waypoint for artists and writers, bolstering its claim as Switzerland’s cultural capital. The city has no less than 100 galleries and 50 museums, not to mention landmarks like Cabaret Voltaire, the café where the Dada art movement was born. Get cultured efficiently along Raemistrasse, a street that’s home to a slew of galleries. Or head to Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s most popular shopping street, to admire the contemporary buildings by Theo Hotz, a noted Swiss architect who works wonders with concrete and glass. And not to be missed, literally, is the view of the Fraumunster and Grossmunster churches piercing the skyline along the Limmat River. Inside Fraumunster you’ll find five stained-glass windows created by the famed artist Marc Chagall, while Grossmunster is home to a window by Swiss artist Augusto Giacometti.
