Ship in Stockholm harbor, Sweden

A reflective view of Stockholm, Sweden. (ThinkStock)

What to do in Stockholm

In the Swedish capital of Stockholm, beauty meets brains. On the surface, it’s a vision of waterways, green spaces, pretty buildings, and high style, with a near-perfect sunny summer and a cozy winter. But Stockholm is more than just good looks. Its City Hall hosts some of the greatest minds in the world as the venue for the Nobel Prize banquet. Beef up your own tourist résumé with trips to some of the city’s many museums, like the Vasamuseet, which houses a ship that sunk on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was recovered more than 300 years later, and the Nordiska museet, which provides a comprehensive look at Swedish dress, customs, and daily life from the 1500s through the present time.  Spread across 14 islands, Stockholm has a range of distinct neighborhoods that you can mostly get around on by foot, but going by boat is a viable option.
