What to do in Charleston
Touring the most iconic parts of downtown Charleston is a little like stepping into the pages of a billowy Southern Living
-style magazine. It is one of the best-preserved colonial cities in the country, with a defined bravado that comes from possessing some of the oldest architecture in the U.S. Many of the antebellum mansions, sprawling plantations, and centuries-old churches whisper polish and romance, as do all the pearls and seersucker. It’s no wonder it’s often referred to as the most mannerly city in America. While no tourist should skip over the cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriage tours, Charleston also boasts a host of modern diversions. The Upper King district is the place to spend your evenings, among the city’s growing collection of chic boutiques, raucous live-music bars, and trendy restaurants and cafés.

Charleston is probably one of my favorite places. It is charming, historical, and near some wonderful southern beaches! Check out Folly Beach, Sullivan's Island, or Isle of Palms to lay & play on the beaches. Eat at Bowen Island for oysters (is cash only & seems sketchy, but it's a local gem), Coast Bar & Grill, Fleet Landing, Moe's Downtown Tavern, & Social Wine Bar are favorites in Charleston, and Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island is a Must go. Walk the Cooper River Bridge for exercise :) Meeting St & East Bay Sts are good food & shops. Explore the neighborhoods below Broad St & near the Battery at the end of the island. Also check out the Market to buy some "local" crafts. Carriage & ghost tours are also well known in the area. Also many magnificent plantations in the surrounding area as well. (Stay away from N. Charleston.)

Charleston, South Carolina is like a mountain town by the ocean...just minus the mountains! If you're looking for adventure activities then this is the place to come. Not only are there amazing restaurants and shopping in the middle of a historic town, but you are only ever minutes away from surfing, sea kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, fishing, world class sailing and awesome running trails in the county parks and beaches. It's like a little Boulder, CO or Burlington, VT by the sea!
