When the day is done and you've gotten your fill of waist-deep powder, don't expect a hopping apres scene at Wolf Creek (the Pathfinder Bar is a six-foot window alongside the cafeteria that's only open till 4:30 p.m.). Instead, head into nearby Pagosa Springs, 23 miles away, for beer and burgers at the Bear Creek Saloon & Grill. For the closest lodging to the mountain, book one of the ten log cabins at the High Country Lodge (from $89; ), where the hot breakfast includes Belgian waffles and biscuits and gravy—sufficient fuel for another day shredding the deepest snow in Colorado.
