What has been developed here is a widely rambling resort on nine peaks, where the dedication to superb snow farming and affordable lodging is second to none. The result is a major ski area just 90 minutes from Portland that offers something for everyone. If there's a weakness, it's that the learning area is situated amid other traffic on the slope.

The strengths? You name it: bump skiing, glades, groomed cruising, a terrific ski school, serious steeps, terrain parks set on every peak, and a night halfpipe/skating/entertainment center that younger folks love. Although the resort is somewhat isolated, it's a ten-minute drive from downtown Bethel, which has more than a fair share of good restaurants and quaint inns.
