If you are looking for a smaller mountain or if, after a full day of skiing at Jackson or Grand Targhee, you still want more, Snow King—Jackson's town hill and the first ski resort in Wyoming—offers day and night skiing within snowball-throw distance of the town itself. Wooden skis and woolen clothes were the standard of the day when Snow King opened in downtown Jackson in 1939. Now, five lifts service 400 acres, a 1,571-foot vertical drop, and nearly 20 runs. At 55 degrees, Upper Exhibition is rumored to be the steepest in-bounds run in North America. Bill Briggs, the man who first skied the Grand Teton, heads Snow King's ski school.
