Overview by Mitch Kaplan
Family owned and operated, few resorts are as family friendly as Okemo. Despite being stuck in gigantic Killington's shadow and having a rather cumbersome base layout, the 115-plus trail resort is an intermediate's delight. There is probably more well-groomed, pleasantly-pitched cruising at Okemo than anywhere in the east. There are pockets of advanced skiingand even one run that boasts a man-made mogul fieldso the hotshots in your family won't get cranky. For riders, there's a snowboard park; but you also tend to see more older (adult!) riders on the trails than at some of the other snowboarder sanctuaries. Okemo offers day care and kids programs, and the town of Ludlow retains just enough Vermont charm to be an attraction in its own right.
