Elk Mountain Ski Resort

Overview by Mitch Kaplan
Elk sits in the Endless Mountains, north of Scranton. It advertises itself as offering Vermont skiing, and the trail system does contain stretches that live up that billing. No resort amenities are to be found nearby, but if you come here to simply ride or skiand maybe have dinner in the excellent base lodge restaurantyou will be amply rewarded. Elk Mountain does things like "dusting" the moguls with man-made snow when they get too icy, and the trails offer variety, texture, and challenge. Not a great beginner's mountain, but a fine place to hone your skills.

rates Elk Mountain
On a ski club trip when I visited Elk Mountain. This is bare bones skiing, small area and minimal amenities. But, for a day of skiing with friends, this is a great place. No big crowds when we were there, making it seem like the place was ours.If you come by car, there are places fairly close for lodging and food. It's worth a look see.
Pros: Easy to access, Great for kids, Well maintained.
