Overview by Mitch Kaplan
Now officially affiliated with the historic Mount Washington Resort, Bretton Woods specializes in keeping families happy. After recent expansions, it has become the largest ski area in New Hampshire with more than 460 acres of skiable terrain. Included in the expansions are ten lifts, snowmaking abilities, and additional base and mid-mountain lodges. There is also seemingly endless cross-country skiing.
When it comes to downhill, Bretton Woods shines at two things: making snow and giving beginners and intermediates (and families that typically accompany those skiers) a place to get comfortable on the slopes. Most runs are well groomed for smooth cruising, along with a few glade runs and short steeps to keep things thrilling.
The resort also has a long legacy of offering some of New England's best accommodations, and its main resort is located a snowball's-throw away from restaurants, local attractions, ice skating, sledding, and snowshoeing in neighboring national forestland.
