Overview by Claire Walter

Colorado's most luxurious resort continues growing around its new village center. Luxurious lodgings in an elegant and monumental mountain style, fine dining (Wolfgang Puck’s eatery is a staple), and subdued nightlife are the resort's hallmarks, but Vail-based skiers commute to ski the Beav's wide, handsome runs or gawk at the spectacular views. Beaver Creek proper has enough variety of terrain, optimal conditions, and serious vertical to justify a trip, but add Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead mountains and the stats are downright monumental: 3,340 feet of vertical, over 1,800 skiable acres, 149 trails, and three terrain parks. All mountains are linked via lifts, creating a European "village-to-village" ski experience. Lift passes are also valid at Vail.

Beaver Creek also boasts The Ranch, a state-of-the-art children’s ski and snowboard school, a 4,000-square-foot, on-mountain center located at the top of the Buckaroo Express gondola, surrounded by premier beginner learning terrain. The center’s picture windows will allow parents to discreetly view their kids learning to ski and ride on customized slopes designed to facilitate the correct body movements. The Ranch is a key part of Beaver Creek’s commitment to offer a top family vacation experience.

Where: 120 miles west of Denver, 25 miles east of Eagle County Airport, off I-70 (Avon exit).

There are 3 reasons you should go to BC: the bumps, the steeps, and the groomers (okay, 4 reasons if you include the free cookies every afternoon)! The staff at BC is absolutely meticulous in taking care of their slopes. BC is known for its grooming and it`s easy to see why. If you make it there when they open, you will see that the groomers look like they were raked by hand like a Japanese zen garden. But not only are they great in the morning, BC sends the cats out midday to keep up the grooming - the only resort I know of that does this. The steeps and the bumps are also great at the Beav. The expert terrain at BC is among the best in CO, and it is why I like it so much. Golden Eagle is a groomed double black diamond run where they sometimes hold races (Super G?).

Every year I bring 5-8 girlfriends on a early December ski trip to Beaver Creek. It is the perfect place for all of us. We all have different ski abilities and we can all find the perfect runs to enjoy every single day. We all meet up at the end for each day at our favorite bar, Coyote Cafe, to hash out the day and laugh at our adventures. Then we all head down to our condo to share a delightful dinner and hot tub together. Beaver Creek has the best terrain anywhere. You cannot beat the fact that you have many bowls, Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead to ski to. No one can ever complain about being bored with the same runs. The beginner area is outstanding. Being at the top of the mountain gives any new skier the opportunity to view the beauty of the surrounding mountains. Every girlfriend on every trip I have planned has never had a bad time and every year I start getting calls at home asking if I have started planning our upcoming trip. I hope I can do this for years and years to come. Pros: Great for kids, Well maintained, Short lines, Easy to access.

What a WONDERFUL weekend SKI TRIP! We flew in to Eagle and within 45 minutes we made it to the base of Bachelor's Gulch at Beaver Creek by 1:15. We could have easily jumped into our skies and skied for FREE the rest of the afternoon! (This resort offers a SKI FREE on arrival day if you show your airline ticket)! We enjoyed two days of SKIING-- FABULOUS days! Perfect conditions and NO lift lines! There is a huge variety of skiing at BC and we enjoyed it all- Lots of perfectly groomed runs and plenty of more challenging steep and bumpy ones too! The ease of getting around the mountain makes skiing Beaver Creek a great experience! One of our favorite after-ski activities was eating dinner at Zach's Cabin! We rode on a snow cat sled up the mountain and enjoyed a 5 star meal!. Pros: Short lines, Easy to access. Cons: No information.
