Old Faithful Inn is the icon of national park lodges in the most famous of America's national parks, Yellowstone. This lodge has just about everything you could want in a national park lodge including history, atmosphere, and charm. The central section of the lodge was constructed in 1903 with two large wings added in 1913-14 and 1927. Modifications over the years include additions to the dining room and major changes to the lobby. Old Faithful Inn is the only one of three lodges in the Old Faithful area (the other two are upscale Old Faithful Snow Lodge and rustic Old Faithful Lodge and Cabins) without cabins or an annex.

The highlight of Old Faithful Inn is its magnificent lobby, which boasts log beams and a vaulted ceiling that soars 77 feet above the first floor. The lobby has multiple overhanging balconies and a mezzanine with chairs, tables, and sofas. Off the mezzanine is a second-floor porch that offers excellent views of Old Faithful geyser. The lobby centerpiece is a huge clock on the front side of a massive, four-sided stone fireplace.

The downside of staying here, however, is the steady parade of non-guest sightseers who prowl the lobby area, meaning it's often noisy and crowded. Consequently, the best time to enjoy this wonderful place is early in the morning before the guests arise and the throngs of sightseers arrive.
