In addition to the golf, snow sports, hiking, and swimming that have been bringing guests back to Massanutten year after year, resort guests can now take advantage of an indoor/outdoor water park for year-round fun no matter the weather.

Accommodations range from king or double queen rooms with sleep sofas that sleep up to four, to a variety of condo and villa options that can hold as many as 12 overnight guests. All lodging includes refrigerators, balconies, and free wireless Internet. The amenities skew more functional than luxe, but with all the resort has to offer, you won't spend much time mourning the lack of a flat-screen TV. Some newer and redecorated condos like those in the Summit Hillside units, do offer upscale touches like fireplaces and whirlpool tubs.

The resort offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation, including canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, a skate park, snow tubing, and horseback riding. The calendar is packed with indoor classes and activities as well, from crafts to yoga to basketball. Mom and dad can take in a fitness class, play a round of golf, or head to the spa for a massage while kids (ages 3 to 12) take part in Kid Rec, a licensed childcare facility offering a variety of creative activities.

Dining options in the resort include a family-style buffet as well as more upscale fare with live entertainment and a nice selection of beer and wine (sample a few with the beer and wine flights at Fareways Restaurant and Lounge). There are five different eatery options within the water park itself, too.

Inside, the water park boasts a wave pool (guests can take surfing lessons or participate in surfing events like late-night jam sessions), tube and body slides, a tipping bucket, lazy river, hot tub, child's play area, and swimming pool; the outdoor area offers a headfirst racing slide, large wave pool, and activity pool, giving guests a nice way to cool off during those hot summer months.

There is a lot to do and see at Massanutten, but the variety of activities and size of the resort can spell a lot of walking for guests, something to keep in mind if you have small children or mobility issues. The resort offers special packages with activity passes included, so don't be put off by the water park's steep admission prices.
