Though it isn't exactly a wellness retreat, this Grenada resort falls more on the healthy side of the all-inclusive spectrum, and not quite so much into the hedonistic. Yes, there are the requisite restaurants and bars, but the food is fresh and portions come in European sizes. The spa is more than an attraction; it's actually integrated into every guest's stay. When you arrive, you're given a spa schedule with a free service booked for every day (except arrival): first a full-body massage, then a facial, and so forth. If you want to make changes or cancel, fineotherwise, just show up at the pre-appointed time and be pampered. Also included in the rates: golf on the nine-hole executive course, yoga in the sports pavilion, and one scuba dive a day (except arrival day, for safety reasons). But most unusual of all is the Master Class program, which takes place year-round. Experts are brought from all over the world to do two-week residencies teaching their specialty. Italian cooking, circuit training, painting... all sorts of topics have been offered, and this program too falls under the all-inclusive offering.
The resort's design skews plantation-style, while still acknowledging Caribbean vacationing's true centers of gravity: pool, beach bar, other bar. (Yes, the place is healthy, but it's not Sparta for heaven's sake.) The latter is a rather grand freestanding structure featuring hardwood accents, a double-tiered roof, and no walls at all. With spacious booths and ocean views and a live band every night, this is a real hangout, not just somewhere to grab a drink. The beach bar is named Oscar's, and doubles as a seafood restaurant with a surprisingly ambitious menu. For casual dining, there's a buffet and a deli. For formal, the Great House Restaurant provides elegant à la carte dinner service. Beautiful views, romantic outdoor setting, attentive staff…all the ingredients for a special occasion.
Overall, the property-wide ambience is serene and tranquil. It fronts an expansive swathe of Pink Gin Beach, with guest accommodations built into one rolling hillside and the golf course on the other hill. A relaxation pavilion overlooks a pond. A ten-person hot tub is the perfect setting for sunset cocktails for a few couples. And with no guests under the age of 16, this is indeed a place for grownups to rejuvenate in whatever manner they wish.
LaSource is somewhat of an institution among UK vacationers, many of whom have been there 20-plus times over the years. This is particularly impressive considering that Hurricane Ivan destroyed it in 2004. The entire property was rebuilt over a period of approximately four yearswhich is why all the buildings look shiny and new. They've been renovated, and presumably fortified against future natural disasters, with the only real new addition being Oscar's Beach Bar.
