La Casa Que Canta, "the house that sings"... how's that for an alluring introduction to one of Mexico's most charming small luxury resorts?

Hugging the rocks above La Ropa Beach in Zihuatanejo, a Pacific coast city in the state of Guerrero, the resort is only a short taxi ride from town but offers a complete immersion into a different world, and a different way of life. Its beautiful architecture and sculpted reddish adobe construction almost make it seem as if the hotel grew straight out of the ground. Overlooking Zihuatanejo Bay, La Casa stops right at the water's edge, virtually dipping its feet into the Pacific before pulling back.

For a romantic, luxurious retreat to a place overlooked by the vast majority of tourists who come to Mexico, La Casa Que Canta certainly rewards the knowledgeable traveler, and it has the accolades to prove it. Its trophy cabinet includes perennial nods from the likes of Condé Nast Traveler and Forbes.

La casa Que Canta, the house that sings, is named for the sounds of the sea (audible almost everywhere in the hotel.)

Like an exquisite Cliffside village, the hotel's dramatic multitiered architecture is fashioned entirely from natural materials.

The resort features terra cotta adobe walls, thatched roofs, and thick tropical; wooden louvered doors and windows. The entire hotel is decorated with Mexican handcrafted furniture, handicrafts and folk-art.

Beach Expert Tips & Helpful Hints
  • Rooms are luxuriously appointed and artfully decorated, featuring thick walls, curving lines, and large balconies with breathtaking views.
  • Master suites have private plunge pools on their balconies—a worthwhile splurge if your budget allows.
  • The hotel has freshwater and saltwater pools, a terrific restaurant, and a highly professional staff.
La Casa Que Canta—"The House That Sings"—is Zihuatanejo's finest boutique hotel, indeed one of the best in Mexico. It occupies a sloping property atop the bluffs between Playa La Ropa and Playa Madera, and has stunning views of Bahia de Zihuatanejo and the low mountains across the bay. Guests should be aware that staying here entails quite a lot of stair climbing; most travelers appreciate the light exercise (and myriad spots to enjoy the view) but those with mobility issues may find it problematic.
