Both resorts share the free-form "lake pool," plus a children's wading pool (one-foot deep), an adult pool, and a rectangular pool for such activities as scuba instruction and water polo. Young children gather at Lucy's Club, an open-air building where kids do arts and crafts and play games; tweens and teens tend to join resort activities organized by the entertainment staff, such as volleyball, beach soccer, and poolside bingo. A small playground for young children is also on the grounds, plus there's a game room with Ping-Pong and pool tables.

Iberostar Tucan and neighboring Iberostar Quetzal are in a gated resort development called Playacar. While Playacar has its own little faux-village shopping center, it's only about a 30-minute walk to Playa del Carmen; by taxi, it's five minutes to the city's bustling 5th Avenue.
