Two hours north of Phoenix, the town of Sedona consists of a striking blend of red rock formations—monoliths, mesas, hanging cliffs, hoodoos, and spires are all part of the twisting rock walls. Many folks who make a pilgrimage to this magical region of Arizona believe that God created numerous spiritual sites or vortexes around Sedona. Whether or not you believe in the power of vortexes, it's hard not to think this is God's Country after sitting at the outdoor terrace of the Enchantment Resort and looking out over the exquisite expanse of Boynton Canyon.

One- and two-bedroom casitas here feature high-beamed ceilings, fireplaces, and obligatory outdoor decks for staring in awe at the land's stunning rocky amphitheater, as if a clay sculptor let his imagination go wild. By all means, wander into Boynton Canyon on a three-mile path. Jagged sandstone walls line both sides of the narrow pass. Prehistoric Native American dwellings can be seen under cliff overhangs that

The Spread:
The Enchantment Resort is located in Sedona's legendary Boynton Canyon, a place of bluffs, buttes, and boldly shaped red-rock formations. The canyon is not only striking but it's considered one of Sedona's "power" spots, the site of First Woman, founder of the Yavapai-Apache tribe. Because Enchantment has a commitment to educating guests (children included) about the region's Native American culture, R. J. Joseph, a member of the Cree Nation, leads guests 16 and older in the Talking Circle, a program about Native American traditions, and kids' activities incorporate Native American elements. At Mii amo, the 24,000-square-foot spa, try traditional massages plus crystal baths, and Watsu or Ayurvedic therapies. The accommodations range from rooms and studios to one- or two-bedroom suites with kitchens. About 110 miles from Phoenix, Enchantment is five miles from town, providing a good base for exploring Sedona and the surrounding
