Not every family needs all the bells and whistles that come with a large all-inclusive resort. Sure, it's pretty awesome to have a kids' club, a white-sand beach, poolside bingo, and evening shows just a short walk away whenever the urge strikes. But for families of babies, toddlers, or preschoolers who don't need constant organized entertainment and activitiesor lower-key families in generalthe El Cid Marina Beach is an ideal choice. It's a quiet, Mediterranean-style resort on the fringes of Mazatlan's busy Golden Zone (filled with towering hotels and rowdy Señor Frogs). The grassy grounds are beautifully landscaped, and the resort's location adjacent to a marina filled with yachts and huge boats adds to the elegant vibe.
The best part about staying at El Cid Marina Beach? All-inclusive guests have reciprocal privileges at three nearby El Cid hotelsEl Moro, Castilla Beach, and Granadaas well as the El Cid Country Club. Your children can spend the day playing at the Castilla Kids' Club or in the twisting waterslides at El Moro, but then you can all return home to the serene scene at Marina Beach, where 200 bright, spacious rooms and suites are spread out in 11 buildings that aren't more than four stories high (no looming towers here). A complimentary shuttle runs every 15 minutes to the other El Cid properties, which are only about five minutes away.
A family of four can stay in a junior suite with two queen beds, kitchenette (bonus!), and small living area with two sofas on concrete platforms. If you remove the back cushions, and ask housekeeping for extra bedding, a child could definitely sleep on one, assuming your kiddos don't want to share a bed. One-bedroom suites have king-size beds, a living area, a dining area, and a kitchenette, with a maximum occupancy of two people. If you really want to spread out (or if you have a family of five or more), book connecting junior and one-bedroom suites for ultra-spacious condominium-like accommodations. Suites were refurbished in 2008 with new appliances and redecorated in smart blue, beige, and gold accents
Note that El Cid Marina Beach faces the ocean, but it doesn't have direct beach access. However, a wonderfully quiet beach is a one-minute water-taxi ride away (an adventure in and of itself for younger kids). You won't find bothersome vendors trying to sell you trinkets herethe secluded beach is a treasure.(-) Close

Family Review of El Cid Marina All Suites Beach Resort
- One great thing about El Cid resort is that guests have access to all four hotels, programs, and restaurants (all-inclusive guests are mostly limited to their own hotel for dining). The Marina Beach Hotel is low key, with just 204 suites (junior to two-bedroom) in low-rise buildings set around the marina where yachts from around the world come and go.
- This quieter, more intimate property doesn't have as much action, but guests here who want action--especially teens--have to go no farther than El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel for pool music and access to beach and water sports. It's just a one-minute water taxi ride from the Marina to the private beach. At the hotel, there's a pool with a special lagoon area for kids.
- All suites have a balcony and TV and guests can choose lodging-only or all-inclusive plans. El Cid has timeshare salesmen around, so be prepared to be approached.
