Casa de Campo means "country home," a humble phrase for a 7,000-acre Dominican Republic resort that began in the 1970s as a private retreat for Gulf+Western founder Charles Bluhdorn and friends. After his death, it was bought by a group of investors including the Cuban-American Fanjul family (the world's leading sugar barons) and opened to the public as "the Caribbean's most complete resort."

That bold assertion still applies. Casa is an amazing destination where visitors can live
