What to do in San Juan

It's only the size of Connecticut, but Puerto Rico pulsates with more life than most other Caribbean islands put together. The cosmopolitan city of San Juan moves to the beat of bomba and is a near 24/7 party, whether it be on the dance floor or on your dinner plate. Inexpensive, direct flights from the United States have caused a surge in travel—propelling the city into a culinary crossroads, where Caribbean flavors meet an American passion for creative fusion. Acclaimed chefs bring new perspectives to island classics like pigeon peas and plantains. Once you’ve had your fill, explore Old San Juan, the walled enclave known for its restored centuries-old buildings. Just east of town is El Yunque National Forest, the only tropical rainforest in the National Forest System. Follow colorful trails of orchids and take a cool dip under a waterfall.

Henry rates San Juan
I went to San Juan in September 2009 with a good friend. We stayed at the Marriott Stellaris Hotel & Casino with a pool/ocean view. It was an incredible property, and I ended up winning some money on one of the video machines in the Casino. We rented a car and drove to Fajardo and the El Yunque Rainforest. The car rental was less expensive than doing the charter tour of the Rainforest, and we didn't have to adhere to the tour company's agenda either. Definitely go! The next day we drove into Old San Juan and toured the forts of El Morro and Castillo San Cristobal. These are both *do not miss* locations in the old city. There are lots of great food places with Spanish, Caribbean and Latin American cuisine if you're a foodie.
