Hauth describes how he got his shot: “Awaiting the right conditions for an evening reflection shot of Mount Washington, I noticed a small shrub growing in the water. Zooming in isolated the shrub, eliminating all size references, and it began to look more like a grove of trees than a knee-high bush. Under the dark cloth of my large-format camera, the color intensified and the image began to look much better than I had visualized. The angle of the camera gave me a new perspective and a feeling of almost floating, as if I was looking down on a completely different scene. I almost forgot that I was standing in knee-deep water, hiding from hordes of mosquitoes.”
