Summer in the Falkland Islands finds the rockhopper penguin colony with nearly full-grown chicks, making feeding a full-time job. The adults take turns, with some staying in the rookery attending the chicks, while others go to the open water to collect food. McDonald positioned herself carefully on the shore to watch their activities. As high tide came in, these two adult penguins excitedly hopped toward the crashing waves, and were caught as if pausing to say, “No, you first.”
