NEARBY: Flaming Geyser State Park
Why We Love It:

This 480-acre day-use park features some serious adventures just minutes from Seattle's urban bustle. Flaming Geyser visitors can hike and bike on the park's five miles of trails or hit the water for tubing, rafting, and fishing.

Don't Miss:
Check out the remote-controlled aeronautics at Flaming Geyser, a local mecca for model airplane flyers.

Getting There:
Flaming Geyser lies 26 miles south of Seattle on Washington state road 18. From Auburn-Black Diamond Road, take Green Valley Road east for nine miles.

The Fine Print:
This day-use park is open until dusk in winter months, and water sports such as fishing, swimming, and whitewater kayaking are available in the spring and summer. The park charges a $5 daily fee. For more information visit www.parks.wa.gov or call 888.226.7688.

NEARBY: Mount Rainier National Park
Why We Love It:

At this vast 235,625-acre Washington park, activities abound, from mountaineering and trekking in the warmer months to phenomenal winter snow sports.

Don't Miss:
Rainier has been dubbed the mountain of fire and ice for its rugged glaciers and towering volcano. Hike the circumnavigating 93-mile Wonderland Trail for a view to both.

Getting There:
Mount Rainier is only 50 miles southeast from Seattle via state road 706, but plan on spending a weekend to get the most out of Rainier's abundant adventures.

The Fine Print:
The park is open year-round, but winter visitors to the mountain are required to carry tire chains. A seven-day pass costs $5, and annual passes are available for $30. For more information visit www.nps.gov/mora or call 360.569.2211 x3314.
