Will It Pedal in Peoria?

Three Mountainbike Trails in the Peoria Illinois Basin
Gorp.com

What happens when you combine the Illinois River with a rich agricultural basin? You get Peoria, Illinois. And you also get some wonderful areas to mountain bike. Early French settlers in the area probably didn't have mountain biking on their minds when they erected Fort Crevecoeur, the first foreign fort in Illinois, but those of us who followed can appreciate the unique terrain here. Local mountain biker Troy Pritchard keeps it in perspective:"The terrain has a mixture of the southern and northern parts of the state."That variety shows up in the trails. With the exception of the easy Rock Island Trail, the rest provide a mix of riding experiences. I would be remiss if I didn't make special mention of Jubilee College State Park, perhaps one of the best intermediate-level trails around. In all, Peoria is rich in mountain biking opportunities."There's a lot to offer in this area that people don't know about," says Troy. "There may be other trail areas that we don't even know about."

Mountain biking. Will it play in Peoria? You bet.

Thanks to Troy for supplying information on some of his favorite rides.
