Top Ten Hikes for Families in Yellowstone National Park
Grand Canyon area, 4.5 miles round-trip
From the Cascade Lake Trail Picnic Area this nice, flat hike takes you through spotted forest and meadows until you come out into a wide open meadow that offers up an amazing wildflower show in June and July. Then with the Washburn Range looming in the background you come upon large Cascade Lake, home to cutthroat and grayling, with otter, coyotes, moose, elk and bears prowling the surrounding lands. If you have some time on your hands and desire a bit more of a workout, you might consider continuing another 3 miles and 1,400 feet up to Observation Peak with its views of the Central Plateau, Grebe Lake, and Hayden Valley.
