Preparing for a trip to the Swiss Alps will ensure your ultimate enjoyment. It is a detailed but pleasurable task. Beneath you will find a list of some resources for planning a tour. For some, the challenges of choosing destinations, hotels and trails is overwhelming, and they entrust these decisions to a pro. If you don't have the time to do the research, consider traveling with a hiking group or a private guide, or if you prefer traveling independently, enlist the help of a competent travel planner who specializes in Swiss travel.

Switzerland Tourism

A complete list of tour operators in Switzerland is available from the Swiss National Tourist Office. This site offers general tourist information about Switerland and its resort towns. It is filled with contact information, but due to its large scope and the fact that it represents all entities equally, it is somewhat ponderous. Contact the SNTO by phone (212) 757 5944 to request publications on Switzerland, hiking the Swiss Alps, a list of tour operators, and the very useful hotel guide put out by the Swiss Hotel Association.

Swiss Rail

Swiss Rail Timetables allows you to request fare and schedule information for routes between any destinations in Switzerland. Very useful!

Swiss Hotel Association

An interactive site that allows you to request information on hotels of any category in any Swiss location. It provides all the information of the Hotel Guide online. Fun, but you may find that the printed version is faster and easier to use.

Listings of feature articles, books, maps, travel companies and links around the web with great information on Switzerland.

The Adventurous Traveler Bookstore

The Adventurous Traveler Bookstore is a great source for travel guide books, and they stock Swiss maps!

Gorp - Switzerland Resources

Listings of feature articles, books, maps, travel companies and links around the web with great information on Switzerland.

Thanks to Karen Walker of Ryder Walker Alpine Adventures for sharing her knowledge about Swiss hiking with us!
