What to do in Asheville

The mountain town of Asheville has long been a den of progressive culture, hosting writers as varied as Fitzgerald and O. Henry. Today, the River Arts District, a row of former warehouses lining the French Broad River, houses dozens of open-door studios. Impromptu “art” also pops up around town: At the intersection of Broadway and Patton, a shirtless man in high heels juggles cleavers while balancing on a unicycle. Around the corner, a bluegrass quartet twangs through a Willie Nelson tune inside the foyer of an antique shop with great acoustics. Downtown is packed with inventive farm-to-table joints serving fusion delicacies and New South interpretations on classics like shrimp and grits. And with almost a dozen breweries operating within the city limits, Asheville’s craft beer scene produces some of the tastiest brews in the country.

Asheville is a fabulous destination for a mountain adventure that has mild weather and many different activities. Asheville has an airport, but it is an hr north of Greenville's International Airport and 2 hours west of Charlotte's, which might be cheaper. Plus they are pretty drives. Asheville is known for it's culture, both in the arts & music. Stroll the streets of downtown Asheville then slip away the next day for a hike or mtn biking in the Pisgah National Forest then do a day at the Grove Park Spa. Nearby, Hendersonville is a quaint little town that is a must-see too, especially for their apples. And a stop by the Biltmore House is a MUST DO. It is one of the largest private homes in America and the house & grounds are gorgeous year around. Plus the wine tasting is a bunch of fun too! Eat at Tupelo Honey's, very yummy too!
