Traveler Reviews of Picton
Pete rates Picton
Picton was a pleasant base for "tramping" along the nearby Queen Charlotte Track. The town itself is small but charming, with a variety of reasonable lodging options within an easy walk of the good core of shops and restaurants on and just around High Street. But, the star of a Picton visit is Queen Charlotte Sound and the hiking trail that runs along it. There are several water taxi outfits that will take you from Picton Harbor to (and back from) various points along the track, providing lots of flexibility for a day hike, a multi-day camping or lodge experience, and anything in between. If you have a car, take the short but scenic drive west from Picton to nearby Havelock for delicious local green lip mussels at The Mussel Pot.
