What to do in Atlantic City

All of those Atlantic City clichés—mafia rule, trashy frat parties, and busloads of retirement-home residents—are just made for TV. Visitors to the real-life AC will find a seaside resort that has returned to its 1880s roots, with a boardwalk lined by stylish casino resorts and miles of sandy beaches. But it’s not all about placing bets, AC is a foodie's haven, with everything from $5 buffets to four-star restaurants like Buddakan to 30 flavors of salt-water taffy (James' Original has been doling out the sticky sweets since the 1880s). As you munch, walk the promenade and check out the street names inspired by the Monopoly playing board. There's no better place east of the Mississippi to feel that old-time Rat Pack glamour.
