What to do in Minneapolis

Travel to Minneapolis prompts thoughts of subzero winters, pond hockey, and the Mall of America, the largest shopping mall in the United States. But this city is also home to some of the country’s oldest and best theaters, museums, and galleries. The Guthrie Theater, which Time magazine called a “21st-century dream factory,” has three stages, a full-service restaurant, and views of downtown that would make even Chicagoans envious. The nearby Walker Art Center is a leading contemporary art museum, with pieces from Picasso, Henry Moore, and Alberto Giacometti. And the free Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is must-visit for its iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry installation. The Northeast Minneapolis Arts District boasts hundreds of workshop and performance spaces for local artists—and don’t worry, they’re heated during those damn  cold winters.
