When Mexican government computer analysts targeted Cancun for tourism development in 1974, it didn't take complicated algorithms to see the potential of the white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and tropical weather. But as Cancun hits full stride, it draws fans and critics alike. Mellow travelers shy away, considering it little more than a spring-break boomtown. Still, a recent focus on non-tequila-related activities is winning over family travelers who can swim with dolphins, snorkel above 400 underwater sculptures off Isla Mujeres, or dive with whale sharks off Isla Holbox. On land, the ancient Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Tulum, and Coba are all within an easy drive. Kids can enjoy zip-lines at eco-archaeological theme parks like Xcaret and underground swims in local cenotes (natural sinkholes). It seems the computers were right.

There's no denying that Cancun is infamous for skeezy Spring Break partys. The town does have quite the party vibe but that doesn't mean you have to partake if visiting. If you get into one of the fancier resorts on the beach, it wont have the vibe you are trying to avoid. These big resorts often section off the beach and allow just hotel guests to stay there. There are also so many water sport options that if you keep yourself busy during the day, you'll be well on your way to sleeping before the night's festivities begin. I will warn you though, thousands of people flock to Cancun each month. So if you're looking for a quiet beach vacation, try a different town.

What would be the best resort for 2 adults and 2 children under 3?

I was thinking a hotel close to the airport and possibly staying in a smaller hotel, right on the beach that has villas or condo style hotel, as opposed to a larger hotel, so that I have easier access to my hotel room I have a 2 year old and an 8 month old. Don't really care much for a la carte dining or extra curricular activites, just a nice beach and a good 24 hour buffet.

We are a family of five planning a trip to Cancun this spring (2 adults, three children aged 5, 8 and 11.) We want to stay at an all inclusive resort that allows all of us to be in one room with two queen size beds and one roll away bed. Where can I get a list of the resorts that offer roll away beds? Thank you!
