What to do in Larrabee State Park

Larrabee State Park covers 2680 acres with 8,100 feet of saltwater shoreline on Samish Bay and 6,700 feet of freshwater shoreline on two lakes. A two-lane boat launching ramp is provided for boaters.

The terrain within the park varies from sea level to over 1900 feet in elevation. Nine miles of trails with 10 footbridges go between the shore, Fragrance Lake and Lost Lake. Three mountain lookout sites are provided along the trail. Also within the park are ten miles of road and parking for 280 cars.

Camping facilities consist of 53 standard sites, eight walk in sites, 26 trailer hookup sites, three emergency campsites and a reservable group camp area (40 persons maximum). The park is on the Campsite Reservation System.

Other amenities are 67 picnic sites, two reservable kitchen shelters with capacities of 50 and 100, two other shelters, a band shell, three comfort stations and three vault toilets.

Recreation
Picnicking, boating, fresh and saltwater fishing, clamming, hiking, camping, water skiing, crabbing, beachcombing and scuba diving are popular park activities.

Location
Larrabee State Park is located on State Highway #11 (Chuckanut Drive), seven miles south of Bellingham in Whatcom County.

Climate
Washington's climate varies with each region. Larrabee State Park is located in an area "protected" by surrounding ocean waters and mountain ranges. Temperatures are consistently moderate, rarely topping 80 degrees in the summer and rarely falling below 30 degrees in the winter.

Annual rainfall averages 36 inches. In the summer months, and especially during July and August, the park may go for weeks without a cloud in the sky. Snowfalls occur mainly in January and February and usually total only one or two inches. Northeast winds may cause temperature extremes.

Island tides range over 14 feet. The extreme low tide of 4.0 feet to the extreme high tide of over 10 feet.
